For Certified and Uncertified (raw) Coins

History:

Many of our fellow numismatic collectors are building noteworthy collections in grades ranging from Fine through Mint State and may be excluded from displaying these collections on the PCGS or NGC registries due to exclusive certification requirements. While certification by either PCGS or NGC does provide for consistency in grading (grade inflation not with-standing) and allows for effective set competition, I believe the registry concept should be made more inclusive to support collectors of all levels.

The Open Set Registry was first started in 2014 after considerable feedback from fellow collectors. Many formats were debated, but ultimately I decided on a completely open model to best support collectors of all financial means and experience. This process resulted in the GFRC Open Set Registry Community Project, which accepts coins without preference to third-party certification or lack there-of (with the exception of the CAC premium).

Mission:

1. Provide an inclusive registry for collectors to showcase both their certified and uncertified coins.
2. Increase awareness, particularly for Capped Bust and Seated coinage
3. Create friendly competition among our peers in a fun manner without annual awards or expensive luncheons.
4. Free collectors working on top registry collections to pursue the best possible coin rather than being limited to a single third-party holder or forced to cross, which can be a poor financial decisions with CAC'ed coins.
