New June 9! Incredible Toning for the Color Connoisseur. The look of this coin is precisely what we want GFRC 2.0 to handle. Unfortunately, there are not many Bust coins that look anything like this. Amazing rainbow toning fully drenches the entire obverse. The reverse has beautiful rainbow toning towards the rim with an original light grey center. There are some obverse marks on the right obverse field near star 11 and a small abrasion near Miss Liberty's cheek that justifies the MS62 grade. The PCGS label is incorrect as it lists it as a Large 5C when it is a Small 5C.

Choice $7300 New May 14! Rare with about 100 Known! The Coin without a Country. In 1859-1860, the half dime and dime changed to having United States of America moved from the obverse to the reverse. During this transition period, some 1860 half dimes were struck with the new With Stars Obverse. However, some coins were paired with the 1859 reverse which doesn't have United States of America on the back, thus the "Coin without a Country." PCGS now calls these Transitional and a Judd-267 pattern number has been assigned to these rare transitional coins. This coin has attractive and original rust purple toning over lustrous surfaces. It is well struck with the exception of stars 9 and 10 on the obverse. There is one line on the right obverse field near stars 12 and 13. While these coins are certainly rare, it is the story that makes this a fascinating conversation piece to non-collectors.

Gem $265 New June 25! Excellent Eye Appeal. Very Attractive Color.. Even though it is a lower priced coin, this caught our attention at the recent June Baltimore show. Attractive color on both sides with the reverse color being superb makes this coin stand out from other Liberty nickels at much higher grade levels. The strike is average with some weakness in Miss Liberty's hair and the left corn stalk on the reverse is flat. There are numerous light horizontal handling lines seen with a loupe to justify the MS62 grade, but are not apparent with the naked eye. The luster on both sides is very good. Gem $2665 Superb Gem Type 1 Obverse Presentation, Brilliant Reflective Mirrors, Tenafly Collection. Final Consignor Price Reduction! - What a pleasure to be again offering this magnificent 1860 proof strike that originated from the Washington State Collection. 1860 brought 1,000 proof strike with the newly engraved and hubbed Type 1 obverse design per Longacre-Paquet. The design proved to be unpopular due to rapid wear of the high points and a flat overall appearance. When examining this piece, one of the finer extant, the intricate device details become apparent. I promptly noted that Liberty's legs and breasts are quite elevated as compared to the low relief head details. Fields are brilliant reflective and surround frosted motifs. The Cameo eye appeal is thoroughly pleasing. If attempting to build a Liberty Seated dime proof set collection (1856-1891), this example will set the bar for premium quality and warrants a strong bid. Gem $45000 Condition Census, Gem Original, Newtown Collection.. Consignor Price Reduction - Production of silver coinage began falling in 1850, as increasing supplies of gold caused an imbalance in the valuation of silver. Congress corrected the problem only with the Coinage Act of 1853, leaving the Mint to coin a decreasing supply of silver bullion in the intervening years. This low-mintage piece exhibits liberal copper and aqua patina, and the overall eye appeal merits the GFRC Gem designation. Ample luster imparts slight reflectivity to the surfaces. Stars are sharp, while the left claws remain separated, if faintly so. WB-4, with a tine to the upper left of 1. CAC has approved 28 coins total, with a single coin in MS65 (the present coin) and only one piece finer, at MS67. Choice $37000 Near-Gem Original, Newtown Collection.. Along with the 1870-CC and 1878-CC, the 1874-CC is one of the keys to Carson City half dollar set. Few pieces survived from the small mintage of 59,000 pieces and today examples in all grades are highly prized. This piece exhibits even, medium gray toning, with hints of gold, russet, and blue more evident as the coin is tilted under a light. Moderate cartwheel radiates from both sides, a touch more actively on the reverse. WB-3, with a die lump below the curl and a diagonal die line through (STAT)ES. The mintmark is small with close spacing and slopes upward. Well struck with star centers evident and typical softness in the left claws. CAC has approved 47 coins total, a single piece in MS63 (the present coin), two examples at MS64, and a single coin at MS65. PCGS reports three higher pieces in MS64, one coin in MS65 and one example in MS66. The CAC price guide value is $37,400 while PCGS is a tick higher at $37,500. The significance of this offering is hard to overstate, as Carson City pieces are among the most desirable issues in the Seated series. This piece combines the all-important CC mintmark with key date status and a strong technical grade. As if that were not enough, CAC endorses this example as premium for the grade. The new owner of this special coin will be exceptionally pleased. Ex. GFRC (August 2021), at $35,000, previously from the Milford Collection (Heritage 1/2011, lot 5565), realized $26,450. Gem $8500 Strong Cameo. An undipped proof with strong cameo on both sides, especially on the reverse which in our opinion boarders on deep cameo. Light toning covers both sides but does not hide the strong mirrors. The hairline free surfaces are surprisingly undisturbed for a 64. We would rather sell this one to a collector rather than a crack out dealer so if you want it please order before Central States. Choice $375 Dual Sided Toning, Brilliant Frosted Luster, Swirling Cartwheels, Perfectly Original. GFRC Cost Basis! - Since starting the GFRC business, there has always been an affinity for toner Morgans. Over time, I've been hand selecting CAC approved toners with coloration that is consistent with originality expectations. Let's face it, there are ample amounts of retoned Morgans out in the market with what I consider to be unnatural colors. This 1878-S example offers the classic obverse aquamarine, copper-gold, and blues on the obverse and delineated green and copper-gold on the reverse that could have paper origins. This is the second-rarest Carson City Morgan dollar, trailing only the famous 1889-CC. The present coin has excellent frosty prooflike luster. Strike sharpness is above average for the issue, and the fields are very clean for the modest grade. Light abrasions on Miss Liberty's face account for the grade.
