Seated dimes that meet these combined attributes provide the best value for the money including being the easiest for resale when upgrading a collection. It is recommended that buyers consider these criteria when contemplating a purchase from any dealer.

Top 100 Varieties: Any Seated dime that conforms to requirements for inclusion in a Top 100 Varieties is denoted in the Variety column.

Gem $4950 Cracked Obverse #3, Top 100 Varieties, Superb Gem Example, Sheffield Collection. A richly original example toned in a soft mottling of steel-blue, golden-rose, champagne-pink and olive-gray patina. The strike is fully executed with surfaces that are exceptionally smooth and well preserved. Frosted luster is noted under a bright light. An excellent candidate to represent the brief Liberty Seated, No Drapery dime design in a high grade Mint State type set. F-111a and previously listed as Shattered Obverse #3 by Greer and included in the Top 100 Varieties set. The obverse features a bold bisecting crack meandering through Liberty's portrait and the reverse is cracked through the letters AT in STATES into the wreath. Original $950 Thick Crusty Patina, Cracked Reverse, Original Surfaces, City By The Bay Collection. Consignor Price Reduction - 1840 brought the third year of Liberty Seated dime production at the New Orleans mint with ongoing quality issues. The F-109a was struck during that period by eroded and cracked dies. As a result, the obverse device details are weakly defined, especially at the date. Multiple radial die cracks through the legend are noted on the reverse. This is an unquestionable crusty example with thick brownish gray patina. A new release from the City By The Bay Collection. The early New Orleans mint years saw aggressive die maintenance on the smaller demonization dies. Just arrived from the New Jersey Collection is a choice original 1842-O F dime with naturally toned surfaces with are also essentially unabraded. This deep South survivor has been well preserved. New March 3! Exceptionally Difficult in Mint State, Choice Original, ex-Gerry Fortin Collection. Ex. Gerry Fortin Collection. A date that is more challenging in Mint State than its earlier 1843-O and 1845-O counterparts. Since the mid-1990s, a search for an originally toned and fully struck specimen has proven unsuccessful. This leads to a conclusion that the 1851-O issue is the key New Orleans Mint State date. The CAC census validates this determination as a single MS61 example has been approved. The mintage is reported to be 400,000 from a single die pair, an elevated production number as Liberty Seated dime dies typically saw end of life at or before 250,000 strikes. To accomplish the mintage, the mint employees carefully maintained the dies with successive lapping resulting in the loss of device details as the output grew. Survivors at the AU level will exhibit lightly mirrored fields due to die continuance. This dime was struck from early die state rusted dies yielding a bold definition of the lightly frosted motifs. The bright light eye appeal, for the issue, is noteworthy including light rose-gold toning across the lower reverse. Gerry examined several of the PCGS MS62 and MS63 survivors and noted an uncharacteristic cloth toning pattern with vivid colors outside the realm of natural toning that was not suitable for inclusion in the Fortin Collection. This offering best suited my collecting criteria given its overall presentation. Acquired by Gerry Fortin via private treaty during August 2002 and fresh cross into it current PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder. PCGS #4596.

Consignor Price Reduction - Thick frosted luster radiates from orange-rose toned surfaces on this 1853 Hubbed Arrows & Date F-102 dime. Both sides offer undisturbed surfaces and continuous luster during bright light inspection. This dime was struck by heavily eroded dies including two obverse die cracks that validate the die variety. A crack through the left end of the left arrow and secondly, a die crack through Liberty's head, are readily evident with 10x. I like this coin at the assigned grade and plan to move it into the web-book as an upgraded plate coin. Fairly priced for the overall quality. Housed in newer NGC holder with edge view insert.

Note, diagonal lines on both sides indicate roller marks on the planchet, as struck. NGC has certified 139 coins total, with six examples at MS66 and only a single piece finer, at MS67. Choice $1365 Near Gem Original, Crusty Gray Patina, Active Mirrors, Fully Struck, Former Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. 2025 Black Friday Sale Offering - At GFRC, we like our Liberty Seated coinage, including proofs, to have 100% natural surfaces and crusty gray patina where possible. This is the case for this near gem 1859 proof strike. Sourced from a Heritage auction during November 2003 due to the atypical crusty obverse toning with incremental gray patina on the reverse. Under the toning are active mirrors. Strike is absolutely hammered. 1859 proofs were struck from two different obverse dies labeled as F-101 and F-102 in the "web-book". F-101 is the more common of the two proof dies while F-102 accounts for about one in five of the proof dimes seen. This F-102 obverse presents a medium level date while F-101 exhibits a upward sloping. This F-102 dime continues to be the proof plate coin within The Definitive Resource for Liberty Seated Dime Die Variety Collectors online reference. This is a popular variety that is listed as #46 in the Top 100 Varieties set and also included in the Top 25 Misplaced Date set. Let's get back to the offered example. Gem $3360 Cameo Designation, Gem Original, Evergreen State Collection.. 2025 Black Friday Sale Offering - 1860 brought the introduction of the Longacre-Paquet Liberty Seated dime redesign. This new obverse design (Type 1) lasted only through 1861 before being promptly replaced with a more robust design (Type 2) that was less "delicate" and subject to rapid wear. The 1860 proof obverse exhibits a group of horizontal die lines starting from the sixth stripe in the shield and moving right, under the scroll at LIBE(RTY), and ending at the fold in Liberty's gown line. This superb gem example presents an opportunity to study the delicate design features. Accurately designated as a cameo given the heavily frosted main devices that are surrounded by mirrored fields. The PCGS certification is accurate as surfaces are entirely unabraded and free off the faintest hairlines. Mirrors are sharp with faint amounts of whitish-gray toning at the date and on the upper obverse. Housed in PCGS Gen 4.1 (2002-2004) holder.

Gem $2665 Superb Gem Type 1 Obverse Presentation, Brilliant Reflective Mirrors, Tenafly Collection. Final Consignor Price Reduction! - What a pleasure to be again offering this magnificent 1860 proof strike that originated from the Washington State Collection. 1860 brought 1,000 proof strike with the newly engraved and hubbed Type 1 obverse design per Longacre-Paquet. The design proved to be unpopular due to rapid wear of the high points and a flat overall appearance. When examining this piece, one of the finer extant, the intricate device details become apparent. I promptly noted that Liberty's legs and breasts are quite elevated as compared to the low relief head details. Fields are brilliant reflective and surround frosted motifs. The Cameo eye appeal is thoroughly pleasing. If attempting to build a Liberty Seated dime proof set collection (1856-1891), this example will set the bar for premium quality and warrants a strong bid. Original $7500 High Grade Doubled Die Obverse, Bold Shield Doubling, Light Gray, Peripheral Gold. From Europe comes a high grade 1873 Arrows F-103 Doubled Die Obverse dime for die variety specialist consideration. This NGC AU53 example is fresh to market, to my knowledge. The doubling on the upper right shield is dramatic with a second counter clockwise rotated hubbing. Few examples are known at such a high grade level where the doubling is readily prominent and easily enjoyed. This new specimen offers even light gray surfaces along with a band of peripheral gold on both sides. Surfaces are steely reflective when placed under a bright light. A complete strike is readily evident on the obverse, which is critical for this variety while the reverse is weakly impressed at the upper left wheat grains. The two finest known examples are the Garner specimen which GFRC recently sold for $18,500 and an white NGC MS61 example which I have lost track of.
