Choice $3750 Very Rare Large O, Circulated Cameo Eye Appeal, Strictly Original. Consignor Price Reduction - GFRC is excited to be offering this very rare 1839-O V-1 example struck with the Large O reverse of 1840. Few examples are documented and listed as R5 rarity in the Cummings online reference at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_o5viK3j9ao797Jc0aN8_h8J-N8W6_-D/view. His reference presents a roster of known specimens with this lot unlisted and easily being a top 5 specimen. Pricing records are minimal leading to a challenge with setting an offer price. GFRC has sold an PCGS AU53 CAC example for $12,000 as the highest priced record. An AU Details example, the Al Blythe plate coin, has sold twice for $4,313 and $,3000. Next in the roster is an original ANACS EF40 that has sold for $6,500 and $4,773. No VF sales records are reported by Cummings. My offer number captures this example's circulated cameo eye appeal that should immediately cement its status in the condition census. Surfaces are well preserved with natural coin gray patination and without contact marks. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.1 (2020-2025) holder. Please note that our consignor has not submitted this lot to CAC. The originality is all there for approval, the question mark is how conservative is the grading, a second and parallel criteria.

Gem $2750 New March 24! Beautiful toning; shattered reverse. Excellent luster underlying golden rust toning at the centers with blue toning at the obverse periphery creates excellent eye appeal on this early Seated half dime. With only 9 stickered at CAC in 66 with none higher, this pop top half dime would be a great addition to a collector putting together a high grade set or would make an excellent type coin. The shattered reverse die creates additional interest.

12248171

Choice $1995 New May 2! Rotated Reverse. Scarce Date. 1844-O half dimes are one ot the better dates in the Seated half dime series. Some varieties of this date are medal turn which means the obverse and reverse are oriented the same way (no need to turn the coin up or down to orient the reverse). This coin is not exactly 180 degree medal turn and is designated by PCGS as a mint error with 170 degrees rotation. This small O reverse variety has good luster. It is well struck on the obverse and weaker struck on the reverse particularly in the right side of the wreath. The obverse has some small ticks and marks. The reverse is attractive with mostly copper toning and hints of magenta and blue toning.

The next smallest mintage date is the 1853 No Arrows with a mintage of 135,000. What stands out is how smooth the surfaces are. The coin displays good detail with nice even wear. CAC has endorsed 4 at this grade, with just 5 higher. The CACG holder indicates this with a (L)egacy designation.

Gem $920 Superb Eye Appeal, Frosted Luster, Vibrant Cartwheels, Unquestionable Gem, Mirror Collection. 2025 Black Friday Sale Offering - The 1858 Seated half dime is one of the more common dates in the series and ideal for type. This impressive Mirror Collection release offers superb eye appeal including brilliant frosted luster and vibrant cartwheels. The bullseye toning features an essentially untoned center surrounded by an initial green ring that transitions to pewter-gold at the peripheries. The overall strike is deeply impressed with heavily clashed dies on both sides. Wire rims are also noted. The PCGS price guide has recently been updated $1200 with this lot's offer price being very fair for the overall presentation and eye appeal. Housed in new large font NGC holder.

New May 2! Inverted Date Variety with Original Surfaces. One of the more interesting varieties in the Seated half dime series where the date was initially punched upside down and then was correctly punched. Gem $1055 Gem Type Offering, Frosted Luster, Vibrant Cartwheels, Superb Presentation, Mirror Collection.. 2025 Black Friday Sale Offering - What a pleasure it is to handle Mirror Collection duplicates! Case in point is this 1858-O Seated half dime that offers glowing frosted luster that is sure to please the selective collector. Active cartwheels are noted under a bright light along with the intermixed rose-gold patina that is deeper on the reverse. The coin in-hand is much nicer than the illustration which lacks the ability to showcase luster. This piece has multiple die clashing events on both sides. Accurately graded and a welcomed addition to an advanced collection. Housed in newer NGC holder with edge view insert.

Choice $985 Frosted Luster, Paquet Hubbed Design, Choice Original, Mirror Collection.. 2025 Black Friday Sale Offering - 1859 brought the introduction of the Anthony Paquet rendition of the Christian Gobrecht initial design. The Paquet interpretation was short lived and is collected as a one year type piece. This Mirror Collection duplicate is notable for its brilliant frosted luster under a bright light. Swirling cartwheels are equally impressive along with light gold toning. The certified grade is a function of lightly (multiple) clashed fields with intermixed faint chatter. Bottomline, this example is primarily a type coin and luster play for those seeking a Mint State example of the Paquet engraving artistry. The New Orleans struck example is better with a mintage of 560,000. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 (2015-2020) holder.

Choice $7300 New May 14! Rare with about 100 Known! The Coin without a Country. In 1859-1860, the half dime and dime changed to having United States of America moved from the obverse to the reverse. During this transition period, some 1860 half dimes were struck with the new With Stars Obverse. However, some coins were paired with the 1859 reverse which doesn't have United States of America on the back, thus the "Coin without a Country." PCGS now calls these Transitional and a Judd-267 pattern number has been assigned to these rare transitional coins. This coin has attractive and original rust purple toning over lustrous surfaces. It is well struck with the exception of stars 9 and 10 on the obverse. There is one line on the right obverse field near stars 12 and 13. While these coins are certainly rare, it is the story that makes this a fascinating conversation piece to non-collectors.

Choice $1355 Rare Civil War San Francisco Date, Choice Original, Lakeland Collection.. 2025 Black Friday Sale Offering - Liberty Seated half dime collectors infrequently see the 1864-S date as mintage was a tiny 90,000 pieces. The rough mining community conditions left few survivors for present day collectors. The Lakeland Collection is releasing one of its duplicate Civil War pieces back to the marketplace after purchasing from GFRC during June 2024. Originally from the Mirror Collection and promptly scooped up by out mother and son collecting team. Both sides present steely fields with consistent luster and toning front and back, a testament to the originality. A few ancient contact marks are noted on the obverse but fully toned. The MS61 grade is quite fair for this noteworthy lot. The June 2024 purchase can be found in the Sales Archive. Housed in new large font NGC holder.

Gem $10100 Condition Census, Key Date, Heavily Striated Dies, Mirror Collection. 2025 Black Friday Sale Offering - The Condition Census 1867 example is the primary highlight of the Mirror Collection release and an important opportunity. showing well-struck devices and sharply reflective fields. This is a beautifully toned coin, the peripheries ringed in iridescent cobalt-blue and reddish-orange patina that frames brilliant centers. A proof like specimen that is fully struck, save for AL of HALF at the center of the reverse. Heavy vertical die striations are prominent under a 10x along with clash marks, which are not unusual for the issue.
